The Virginia Brewing Company was first established in 1889 at Roanoke, Virginia by Mr. Louis A. Scholz, then the brewmaster from J.H. Von der Horst & Son in Baltimore. The company identity has a colorful history which has been reincorporated a number of times by entreprenuers all with the same purpose: to brew quality craft beer. The following chronology is a testiment to the successes, struggles, and perseverance of the various companies linked together by a common name brand that continues to be an important part of the history of Virginia, and the craft brewing industry.
